Interview with JnK

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as an artist? How did you discover NFTs and what attracted you to this field?

I'm JnK, I'm 32 years old now and I've been into NFTs since 2020 now.
Basically I am a tattoo artist then by discovering the world of NFTs I developed a passion for creation and I helped discover how it all worked gradually until I decided, after having tested a lot of things, to launch my own collections as well as a club in order to get into “the game”.
I really set foot in the world of NFTs completely by chance while talking with an acquaintance who is evolving in the crypto world and by discovering this universe I quickly took a liking to it by discovering a real passion for them. NFT because what attracts me the most is the diversity of what we can do and offer to people as well as everything that owning an NFT brings.

What is your creative process when creating digital works to be sold as NFTs?

In fact it all depends on whether I'm doing it for myself or for someone.
When I do it for someone I listen to what the person asks for and do my best to meet their expectations by adding my artistic touch.
But on the other hand, when I work for myself, I try to create a complete universe all around firstly to create and give life to this universe secondly the drawings.
I create the drawings in several batches because there is always something to modify, then something else etc etc
And once I'm satisfied with what I want and what it represents, that's when I think about the different traits.

What challenges do you face as an artist working with NFTs, and how do you overcome them?

Very often, I am faced with requests.
People who want a collection with a specific idea in mind find it difficult to explain it (which is normal) and as a result I am forced to test several different approaches to the request before finding a result that is satisfactory for the person who wants it for me. request.
And following his responses and his comments on my proposals, I can think more calmly and really work on what I understand from the initial request + the comments to end up proposing work that suits the person.

How would you describe the interaction between traditional art and digital art in the world of NFTs? Do you think one replaces the other, or can they coexist?

Honestly, I don't have much of an opinion on this question...
All I can say for having evolved in two different worlds, in fact, it remains art but it is completely different, because even if the process of creation remains similar, the desire, the goal and this that the finished art brings to people is completely different... So for me everything can coexist because it does not affect the same population nor the same demand and in the end one does not encroach on the other.

NFTs have been criticized for their environmental impact due to their energy consumption. What are your thoughts on this issue, and are you considering ways to reduce this impact in your practice?

I don't really have a strong opinion on all of this.
What I know is that yes it has an impact on the environment, but like a lot of things we use on a daily basis... So I wouldn't really be sure what to say about all this, knowing that I don't I'm not a specialist either... For my part, and also to reduce my electricity bill (laughing) I try to turn on my graphics tablet only when I draw when I could use it as a third screen (which could be really practical though)
And also, I do a lot of drafts in paper version before starting on the tablet, so I hope that helps with that too!

What role do you think NFTs will play in the future of digital art and culture?

I don't know at all... It's still art, and like some people collect paintings, others collect photographs, and now some people collect NFTs... The advantage of NFTs is that no one will be able to deceive anyone because an electronic signature cannot be falsified to create a fake or a replica. We can immediately see which artist the collection comes from so I think that in the future many will turn to this security.

How do you perceive the current NFT market? Are there any recent trends or developments that strike you as particularly interesting or significant?

I see it as with many trends, some are rather ephemeral and others are very interesting
But you know, currently people collect NFTs more for what they can offer as an advantage rather than for the artist's stroke of pencil... In the future we will have a little more artist collectors (those who will buy an NFT from each collection created by this or that artist) then others will rather collect different NFTs depending on the style in which it is created.

Of course, pixel art really isn't my thing (laughing)

What advice would you give to other artists considering starting NFT creation?

To get started... It's much simpler than in "real" art, the one that is palpable... Thanks to NFTs we can very well create a collection, even if it doesn't work without it costing us a lot silver !
And you never know, but overnight everything can explode!
So you really have to dare to get started and not hesitate to make mistakes, to test things, and above all not to hesitate to put yourself forward in order to try to get hired for a team that wants to launch its collection for example.
What is certain is that you have to try to make yourself known as much as possible via Twitter. It is the hub of the crypto and NFT world.

Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you would like to tell us about?

For the moment I don't have any upcoming collaborations but I do have a project in progress. It would be a cross between Sadog and Steam. These are two collections which will complement each other into a third because they both evolve in the same universe and will cross paths to create this future collection.
In addition there will be an airdrop of some pieces from the collection for certain people who will own NFTs from other collections.

Finally, where can people view and purchase your NFT works?

For the moment it is mainly on OpenSea but the two future collections (The Sadog and the Steam) will be on the Solana blockchain and the mint day has not yet arrived so wait & see! You can follow all this on the respective discord.
